Schloß Wolfsburg
Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg
The ancient Wolfburg castle was first mentioned in 1302. The family von
Bartensleben owned this medieval water castle for over 400 years. The
old structure was changed to become a rennaissance palace in the 17th
century. Inherited by the earl von Schulenburg the castle was sold to
the town Wolfsburg in the midth of the last century. Actually the town
was named after the castle in 1945.
Today, the Wolfsburg castle a living cultural centre. The huge palace
hosts the town museum (history) and galeries (masterpieces of modern
art). It is also used for representation purposes and parties.
